The Purpose
Because the world is turning into an energy depleted husk. I have came up with a plan of how Scotland can survive. My aim is to completely eliminate Scotland's reliance on the poison known as fossil fuels.
HowI will modify the design of The Falkirk Wheel to eliminate it's boat-lifting function and equip it with several solar panels with two modifications that make them vastly superior to the standard panel. The first modification is that instead of using standard photovoltaic cells, I will replace them with perovskite cells, these boost efficiency from 2.2% to 19.7%. The second modification is that I will attach PV stickers to them boosting their efficiency and capacity. The panels will power the movement of the Wheel, which will generate even more electricity by its huge motion.
WhereI will be implementing the Green Wheels in several rivers and lochs over Scotland. These locations are as follows; Dionard, Strathy, Thurso, Helmsdale, Oykel, Spey, Don, Ythan, Devenon, Dee, North & South Esk, Awe, Tweed, Girvan & Nith. I chose these rivers because they were deep enough for my design this is due to heavy amounts of annual snowmelt.

WhatEach of the Wheels will be equipped with solar panels enhanced with the before mentioned modifications. These panels will power the Wheels, and as a result their movement will be transmitted to power plants across the country were it will be converted into clean electricity.
The InspirationI was inspired by the Falkirk wheel a rotating boat lift connecting the Forth and Clyde canal. I was fascinated by the design and purpose and I hope to reinvent a Scottish icon as a worldwide icon of clean energy
